I think my school/campus/office is OK already!
When we say things like that, we’re displaying the shallow understanding that our obedience is based on people’s needs. It’s like saying God only loves us when we’re in need, but when we’re OK, He doesn’t need to love us. It’s also like saying we don’t have to preach the Good News to the rich because they are OK and therefore have no need for Jesus. But you know very well that both of the above situations are not true. Our obedience to the Holy Spirit isn’t based on whether others seem OK or not.
Surely there’s space for improvement. Surely there are hearts that are hurting and broken… waiting to hear about Jesus and be touched by His love! The truth is, most people only seem OK but they’re not, and only the Holy Spirit really knows their deepest needs. 1 Corinthians 2:10 says that the Holy Spirit “…searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.” Some needs are not physical nor visible, and the heart of the matter is always the matter of the heart. As long as there’s still one more soul to be saved, we should continue to shine His light.
